Valley home project demands participants pick up hammers

The eight nearly completed houses on the outskirts of Wasilla look like most subdivision construction sites. But there’s a difference. This home project is actually part of a Mutual Self Help Program where prospective owners must complete part of the construction.

Fred Meyer recalls three hamburger products

Fred Meyer grocery and department stores have removed some of its ground beef products in Alaska and several other states. The action was taken as the USDA continues its investigation into contaminated meat that caused illnesses in Michigan and Ohio.

Off Mic: Community Forum off this week

You may read his gardening column in the Anchorage Daily News every week, but its not so often you get to ask him questions about your garden on KSKA. Last week, Community Forum host Nellie Moore chatted with garden writer Jeff Lowenfels. Usually, Community Forum is off on the fourth Wednesday every month. But, since we swtiched things up last week, Community Forum is off today, Wednesday July 2nd. BBC World News fills the slot today at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Next week, we’re back on schedule.

A son’s tribute to his parents produces park sculpture

As of yesterday afternoon, Anchorage has a new sculpture gracing a downtown park. The “Flight of the Raven” honors a husband and wife whose names have come to symbolize the civil rights struggle in Alaska.
